Why ChatGPT recommends our competitors, not AnswerBid: an honest audit

AnswerBid teamBy the AnswerBid teamPublished 19 October 20266 min read

Short answer

When buyers ask ChatGPT for the best B2B AI ads or ChatGPT ads agency, it mostly repeats the agencies named in published "best agency" lists. On 19 October 2026 the three most visible lists named WebFX, Directive, Single Grain, Obility and others, and none named AnswerBid. Add a young domain, few independent mentions and a name shared with an unrelated site, and AI has little reason to name us yet. The fix is off-site evidence, not more keywords.

What we checked

We sell AI B2B ads, ABM AI ads and conversational advertising, so we should be able to explain our own absence from AI answers. On 19 October 2026 we looked at the pages that answer the questions our buyers ask, such as "best ChatGPT ads agency for B2B", "ChatGPT ads agency for B2B SaaS" and "ABM AI ads agency". These are the pages ChatGPT search retrieves and cites when it builds an answer. We also searched for our own name and domain.

This is a snapshot, not a ranking study. AI answers change between runs and between users, so treat it as a list of causes to fix rather than a score. If you want to repeat it, the prompts we track and the sampling method are public.

Who the lists name

Three agency lists came up first for these questions: Directive (25 agencies, updated 15 August 2026), Powered by Search (10, updated 15 October 2026) and Single Grain (10, updated 25 January 2026), checked on 19 October 2026. Each is published by an agency that ranks itself first, which is normal content marketing, and AI still reads them.

The pattern is plain: the agencies AI names are the agencies these lists name. An Ahrefs-associated study of 750 top-of-funnel prompts found that "best X" lists made up 43.8% of the pages ChatGPT cited, and that brands ranked high on those lists were more likely to be recommended. We are on none of them.

Only the last row is in our favour. A list that judges agencies on pricing transparency is the one to approach first.

Six reasons, in order of weight

  1. We are not in the lists AI cites. For "best agency" questions, being included in third-party lists matters more than anything on our own site. How list inclusion works.
  2. Few independent pages mention us. Surfer's study of 289,105 cited URLs found that brands mentioned on more cited pages are placed higher, and the link was strongest for ChatGPT. Why mentions matter.
  3. The domain is new. answerbid.co launched in 2026 and much of the site is still entering Google and Bing indexes. ChatGPT search can't cite a page that isn't indexed. Bing and ChatGPT.
  4. The name is ambiguous. answerbid.com is an unrelated homework site, and "answer bid" is a common phrase in procurement software. A model that isn't sure which AnswerBid you mean will leave it out. Brand as an entity.
  5. No reviews or named case studies yet. We are a young agency and say so; we publish our own audit rather than invented logos. That is honest, but it gives AI less to repeat.
  6. Our own shortlist can't vouch for us. Our B2B AI advertising shortlist discloses that we publish it. A self-published list helps only when other sources say the same thing.

None of this buys a place in an answer: OpenAI says ads in ChatGPT are kept separate from answers. Ads do let a new brand appear next to the answer while the organic work builds, which is why we run both for clients. See AI ads vs AI visibility.

Check your own brand the same way

  • Ask the buyer's question, not your brand name. "Best X for Y" is where vendors are chosen.
  • Open the sources the answer cites and note which competitors each one names.
  • Count the lists you are missing from, then contact their editors with evidence, not requests.
  • Search your own name. If the results are about something else, fix the entity before the content.
  • Repeat monthly. Lists are updated often; 79.1% of the lists in the Ahrefs-associated sample had been updated within the year.

Questions

Does ChatGPT recommend AnswerBid?

Not yet for broad questions such as "best ChatGPT ads agency". On 19 October 2026 none of the three most visible agency lists for those questions named AnswerBid, and AI answers lean heavily on such lists.

Is AnswerBid the same as answerbid.com?

No. AnswerBid is the AI B2B ads agency at answerbid.co. answerbid.com is an unrelated homework help website.

Can you pay to be recommended in ChatGPT answers?

No. OpenAI says ads in ChatGPT are separate from answers and labelled as sponsored. You can pay for an ad next to the answer, but not for a place in it.

How long does it take a new brand to appear in AI answers?

It depends on how fast independent pages start to mention you. Being indexed takes weeks; being named in the lists AI reads usually takes months of outreach, reviews and original research.

Why do agencies rank themselves first in their own lists?

Because those lists are content marketing. Directive, Single Grain and Powered by Search each place themselves first in the list they publish. AI still reads them, which is why being included matters.
