LinkedIn ABM budget: how to work it out from your account list

AnswerBid teamBy the AnswerBid teamPublished 19 October 20262 min read

Short answer

Work a LinkedIn ABM budget out from the list: accounts × match rate × committee members per account gives the audience; × impressions per member per month gives impressions; × CPM ÷ 1,000 gives the monthly budget. Keep every audience above LinkedIn's 300-member minimum and company lists above the recommended 1,000 companies. Use your own CPM: published benchmarks vary a lot by format and audience.

The formula

StepFormulaExample (illustrative)
Matched accountsAccounts × match rate500 × 75% = 375
Members× committee members per account× 8 = 3,000
Impressions a month× impressions per member× 8 = 24,000
Monthly budget× CPM ÷ 1,000× $50 = $1,200
Daily budget÷ 30.4$39.47

Run it with your own list in the LinkedIn ABM budget planner, which also warns when an audience falls below 300 members.

The limits that shape the plan

  • 300 matched members per audience before it can serve. A 100-account list with three job functions often misses it.
  • 1,000+ companies recommended per company list; 300,000 maximum; up to 48 hours to process.
  • Match rates vary with data quality. Domains and LinkedIn page URLs match better than names. Clean the file with the company list formatter.

Benchmarks mix industries, audiences and bidding. Plan with your own last 90 days and treat these as a sanity check.

Split it by tier and role

  1. Fund tier 1 and 2 accounts at full frequency to the whole committee.
  2. Run tier 3 at lower frequency to decision makers only.
  3. Hold 10–20% for accounts identified from AI traffic that month. LinkedIn ABM from AI answers.
  4. Pick roles carefully: which roles to target.

Judge it by company

CTR says little about ABM. Report engaged companies, members reached per company and the share of target accounts with two or more people engaging. What LinkedIn shows by company, and its limits.

Questions

How much should I spend on LinkedIn ABM?

Enough to reach most of each target account's committee several times a month. For 500 accounts, 75% matched, 8 members and 8 impressions at a $50 CPM, that's $1,200 a month.

What is the minimum audience size on LinkedIn?

An audience needs at least 300 matched members to serve. LinkedIn recommends company lists of at least 1,000 companies.

What CPM should I plan with?

Your own account's average for the same format and audience. ZenABM's early-2026 benchmark put the median single image CPM at $59.15 and Thought Leader Ads at $49.37.

Is LinkedIn too expensive for small lists?

Small lists are cheap in total but can fall below the 300-member minimum once you add job filters. Combine tiers or widen roles.
