429 errors and rate limiting during uploads

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

Uploading many ads at once makes OpenAI's crawlers visit many landing pages quickly, which can trigger rate limits or bot protection on your site. Look for 429 Too Many Requests in firewall or CDN logs, relax limits for OpenAI's crawlers, and upload in smaller batches over a longer period.

Fix

  • Check CDN and WAF logs for 429s and bot mitigation events
  • Allowlist OpenAI crawler user agents
  • Split uploads into smaller batches
  • Resubmit ads stuck after the block

Questions

Is this an OpenAI limit?

Usually it is your site protecting itself. OpenAI's guidance is to fix access, not to request a bypass.
