Filtering products into ad groups with custom labels

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

Each product feed ad group selects a feed and applies product filters; Ads Manager shows how many products pass. Add custom labels such as custom_label_0 in each product's ads_metadata to group products by margin, season or category. Labels select products; they don't restrict where ads are shown.

Useful label schemes

LabelExample values
custom_label_0margin_high, margin_low
custom_label_1bestseller, new, clearance
custom_label_2season_winter, season_summer

Tips

  • Bid more on high-margin groups
  • Keep clearance items in their own ad group with their own budget
  • A label like "uk_only" doesn't limit delivery to the UK; use country targeting

Questions

Can one product be in two ad groups?

Filters decide membership; overlapping filters can include the same product twice. Keep filters exclusive to keep reporting clean.
