What Google-Extended controls, and what it doesn't

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

Google-Extended is a robots.txt token that limits the use of your content for AI training and grounding in some of Google's other systems, such as Gemini. Appearance in Google Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, is controlled by Googlebot directives and snippet controls, not Google-Extended.

Questions

Will blocking Google-Extended hurt rankings?

Google's documentation describes it separately from Search; it isn't a ranking signal.
