Short answer
A GEO strategy has six steps: list the questions your buyers ask AI, measure how often you are named today, make sure AI crawlers can reach your site, build pages that answer each question with facts and sources, earn mentions in the third-party sources AI cites, and track your share of answers every month.
The six steps
- Questions: 30–50 real buyer questions across category, comparison, alternatives, integration, pricing and problem
- Baseline: ask each in ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot; record who is named and which sources are cited
- Access: allow OAI-SearchBot and Googlebot; be indexed in Google and Bing
- Pages: one strong page per question type, answer first, with numbers and sources
- Sources: get into the lists, reviews and communities the answers cite
- Measure: monthly share of answers and citations
Prioritise
Start with the questions closest to purchase (comparisons, pricing, integrations) where you can genuinely be the best answer.
