llms.txt: what it is and what it isn't

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

llms.txt is a proposal from September 2024 for a Markdown file at /llms.txt that summarises your site and links key pages for language models. It isn't an adopted standard, and Google says no special AI text files are needed for its AI features. An accurate one is harmless and may help some tools.

A useful llms.txt

  • One line on what you do and for whom
  • Links to product, pricing, integrations, comparisons, docs
  • Plain descriptions
  • Kept current

Questions

Is llms.txt like robots.txt?

No. It doesn't control crawling; it describes content.
