IndexNow: telling search engines about changes

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

IndexNow is an open protocol for telling participating search engines, including Bing, that a URL was added, updated or deleted. Because ChatGPT search can use partner search providers and Copilot relies on Microsoft's index, faster Bing discovery can help new pages appear sooner.

Setup

  1. Generate a key and host the key file on your domain
  2. Ping the IndexNow endpoint when pages change (many CMS plugins do this)
  3. Watch Bing Webmaster Tools for crawl confirmation

Questions

Does Google use IndexNow?

Google hasn't adopted it; use sitemaps and Search Console.
