What context hints can't do

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

Context hints only inform relevance. They can't guarantee that your ad appears for particular conversations, and they can't enforce geographic limits, schedules or exclusions. Describing your product scope doesn't exclude people. Use the product's own controls for those jobs.

Use the right control

You want to…Use
Limit to a country or regionCampaign location targeting
Run only on certain datesStart and end dates
Exclude customers or staffCustom audience exclusions
Avoid specific contextsNegative phrases, where available to your account
Show only on desktopPlatform targeting

Why this matters

Writing "not for students" or "US only" into a hint does nothing to delivery. It can also make the hint less clear. Keep hints positive and descriptive.

Questions

Are there negative keywords?

Not in hints. OpenAI says qualifying advertisers can add Negative Phrases for brand-specific placement needs; it isn't available to everyone.
