Short answer
OpenAI verifies advertisers through Persona during account setup. It is a separate step from account review, which checks whether your business is eligible under the ad policies. Verification can take up to 7 business days. If it fails, make sure your account, ads and landing pages accurately represent your business and its relationships.
Statuses and what to do
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not started | The flow didn't begin | Check you're in the right account, refresh or sign in again in an up-to-date browser, then contact support naming the failed step |
| In progress | Under review | Nothing; wait up to 7 business days |
| Failed | OpenAI couldn't verify identity, ownership or affiliations | Fix inconsistencies, retry with accurate current documents, or appeal |
How to pass first time
- Use the legal business name that appears on your website and invoices
- Make sure the website you enter is the one you advertise
- Don't claim partnerships you can't prove: affiliations are checked
- Keep documents current
Business or individual
Where available, you can switch the advertiser type between Business and Individual under Settings > Verification.
