GEO and AEO

Does Google need special markup for AI features?

By the Answerbid teamVerified 12 October 20262 min read

Short answer

No. Google states there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and no special optimisation needed. You don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special schema. Standard SEO fundamentals apply.

What this means

  • llms.txt isn't used by Google for AI features, per this guidance
  • Schema is optional but must match visible content
  • Focus on crawlability, quality and clear text

Questions

Should we remove our llms.txt?

No harm in keeping an accurate one for other tools. Just don't expect it to change Google.
