Short answer
AI ads for B2B reach buyers while they research in ChatGPT and other assistants, often weeks before they talk to sales. Most of those buyers never fill in a form, so a report of clicks and leads undersells the channel. To see what AI ads bring, tag each ad group, identify the companies that visit, score them against your ideal customer profile, and follow them into your CRM. A dashboard that joins these shows cost per fitting company and pipeline, which you can compare with LinkedIn or search.
Why AI ads for B2B are hard to judge
Half of B2B software buyers now start their research with AI chatbots, according to G2 research reported by Demand Gen Report. That research happens early, the buying group is large, and the person who clicks an ad is often not the person who books the demo. A ChatGPT ad may start a visit that turns into a meeting a month later through a direct visit or a sales email. Last-click lead counts miss that.
The one published B2B ChatGPT ads pilot, by Windmill Strategy, reported a 0.66% CTR at $5.68 a click. Those numbers say how the ad performed, not what it brought.
The measurement setup
- One UTM campaign per ad group, for example
utm_campaign=qa-<ad group id>, so every visit can be traced to a buyer question. See UTMs for ChatGPT ads. - Conversion tracking with the OpenAI pixel or Conversions API for the actions that do happen: demo requests, trials, pricing views.
- Company identification on the site, to name companies that visit without filling in a form.
- An ICP score for each company: industry, size, country, plus what it read.
- CRM matching so meetings and opportunities can be traced back to an AI touch.
What to look at, and when
| Timeframe | Look at | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1–2 | Delivery, CTR, CPC by ad group | Fix ads that do not answer the question |
| Weeks 3–6 | Companies identified, fit rate, cost per fitting company | Move budget to questions that bring your ICP |
| Months 2–3 | Meetings and pipeline with an AI touch | Decide whether to scale |
| Monthly | Share of AI answers naming you | Pick pages and sources to improve |
Why one dashboard instead of four tabs
Ads Manager shows the ad, your visibility tool shows the answers, your identification tool shows the companies, and the CRM shows the deals. None of them answers “which buyer questions bring companies we want, and at what cost?” That needs the four joined. Our clients get that join as a live dashboard, included in every package. You can open the client dashboard demo with your work email.

Questions
Do AI ads for B2B generate leads?
Some do, through demo or trial forms. Most of the value shows up as identified companies that research first and talk to sales later, so measure companies and pipeline as well as leads.
What is a good cost per fitting company?
It depends on deal size. Compare it with your cost per engaged target account on LinkedIn or an ABM platform. Use your first 4–6 weeks as your own baseline.
Can we see which companies clicked a ChatGPT ad?
Not from OpenAI: the Ads API reports aggregate metrics. Company identification on your site, joined by UTM, names the companies that visited from the ad.
