How to take part
- Answer real questions in subreddits and LinkedIn groups where your buyers ask for tools.
- Disclose who you are. Communities punish hidden promotion.
- Help first. Link to your content only when it answers the question better than a post can.
- Let customers speak. Encourage happy customers to share their experience where buyers ask.
What not to do
- Fake accounts or paid posts. They get removed, and they damage trust.
- Posting the same link across many threads.
A simple participation routine
- 20 minutes, twice a week.
- Search for your category's questions in two or three communities.
- Answer one question well, with no link unless it truly helps.
- Note recurring questions; they're future pages and ad groups.
Questions
Should our founder or employees post?
Yes, as themselves, with their role disclosed. Communities respond to real people.
Will Reddit posts help us in ChatGPT?
In one study, community sources were a meaningful share of ChatGPT's software citations; in another, Reddit appeared only in Perplexity. Participate for buyers first.
What about LinkedIn posts?
LinkedIn was counted with community sources in one study. Thoughtful posts on your category's questions help both buyers and visibility.
Why communities matter beyond citations
Even when AI doesn't cite a community thread, buyers read them. Discussions about tools, alternatives and implementation problems shape opinions, and they show you the exact words buyers use. Those words make better context hints and better page titles than internal jargon.
Respect each community's rules
Many communities restrict vendor posts or require disclosure. Read the rules, use a personal account with your role in the profile, and contribute on topics beyond your product. Communities remember who helps and who sells.
Measuring community work
Count helpful answers posted, questions captured for content, and direct visits or mentions from communities. Don't expect quick traffic; expect better understanding of your buyers.
