Short answer
Before buying ads in third-party AI apps, verify which apps will show your ads, how ads are labelled, how sensitive conversations are excluded, what data is kept, and whether claimed partners and case studies are real. In March 2026 The Capitol Forum reported that Thrad removed case studies after named brands, including Hims & Hers and OpenAI, said they had no agreement with it.
Questions to ask
- List the publishers and apps where my ads will run
- Show me how the ad is labelled in each
- How are health, finance and other sensitive prompts excluded?
- What conversation data do you keep, and for how long?
- Can I see placement-level reporting?
- Can I speak to a current advertiser?
What was reported
- Case studies naming Hims & Hers, MongoDB, Tripadvisor and OpenAI were removed after inquiries
- Hims & Hers and OpenAI said they had no agreement
- DeepAI confirmed it works with Thrad
- Privacy groups raised concerns about targeting ads from chatbot conversations, especially on health topics
Since then
Thrad's FAQ now says sensitive topics such as politics, health emergencies and violence do not trigger ads, and that it doesn't keep conversation content beyond what is needed to serve an ad. Ask for evidence and placement reports.
Questions
Should B2B brands avoid AI ad networks?
